At 19, stepping out under the Moulin Rouge’s spotlight demanded confidence in nothing but heels, fishnets, and feather headpieces. But, it didn’t come overnight!
Determined to be a ballerina, I had convinced myself that I had to ‘fit in’ at any cost. Swapping pointe shoes for crystal-covered showgirl heels turned my world upside down. I had to work my ass off to rebuild my sense of self, to connect with my inner Diva.
How did I do it? When I wasn’t performing 12 shows a week onstage, I trained with dance teachers who practiced Alexander Technique, learning to release tension and move effortlessly, and studied acting to better express a sense of story through my voice and body.
Combining these disciplines as daily rituals, I finally became my own Diva. Only to realize she’d been there the whole time.
Becoming a Showgirl transformed my relationship with my body. Instead of obsessing over my size and shape, I focused on understanding the why and how of each movement. I learned to finesse my movements, command an audience, and connect more deeply with others.
I learned that moving with confidence isn’t about having summer abs or baring it all. It’s about maintaining posture, harnessing inner strength, and most importantly, sharing your soul.
That’s why I’m here to share everything I’ve learnt to help you reconnect with your own true Diva. Let’s dress up, workout, step up and stand out.
And here at You Showgirl, we’ll do it all in heels!
